Sincere thanks goes to British Consul-General Caroline Wilson for initiating and hosting a wonderful reception at her residence at Opus Hong Kong on January 22nd to bring together young leaders from Commonwealth countries.
Thirteen countries were represented on the evening and, judging by the many emails received, all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
The RCS Young Fellows programme was launched and over 40 have become Founder Members with many of whom have also expressed interest in sitting on, the soon to be formed, YouCom.
Consul-General Caroline Wilson gave an uplifting and insightful speech about the role of young people in the Commonwealth; the RCS in HK Chairman Joan Campbell welcomed guests; and Vice Chairman Peter Mann talked about the way forward for the Young Fellow initiative at RCS.
Thanks also goes to the Consul-Generals who were instrumental in nominating young people to attend, and supporting the event and RCS. In attendance was the Consul- General Prashant Agrawal of India , Consul-General Phumelele Gwala of South Africa, Consul-General Gabrielle Rush of New Zealand, Consul-General Mohammad Sarwar Mohmood of Bangladesh; the Acting Consul-General George Edokpa of Nigeria and Honorary Consul-General Henry Chan of Namibia. In addition to the Consulates of Britain, Canada, Pakistan and Samoa for all their assistance.
